Suggestions on how to save the American experiment of a republic based upon a representative democracy by, of and for the people

Typically, but not often enough in our polarized, factionalized, and tribal-mentality-based society, one would state my title with the words “agree to disagree.” I chose “agree not to agree” to evoke that no one's alternate truth, as long as based upon indisputable facts, needs to be disagreed with, and to…

WE ARE ONLY AS SICK AS OUR SECRETS

Along with my essay on matters of life and death, including suicide, from the perspectives gained on my nearly 10-year-and-counting and never-ending spiritual journey

We Are Only As Sick As Our Secrets

Suicide provides no relief at all
On ledge imagining end to my pain
Pavement streaming toward me will not end fall
Just before break solution becomes plain
My penance to help others to refrain
Thought my loved ones better off without me
Truth’s too likely they’ll header into…

Plus a program for living a spiritual life

I’ve been bouncing this essay around in short forms and in comments for months. I finally feel the full spark of inspiration, catalyzed by my friend Jean Carfantan’s introduction to his newsletter the other day.

I am an editor of ILLUMINATION. In a moment that illuminates the wonderous synchronicities afforded to every single person on Earth, just a few minutes ago, moments from an intention to return to bed, I hopped into our “Q” and at the very top of the list of articles awaiting…

Independent thinking seems not to exist in our society infected with confirmation bias. 40% of Americans identify as independent but they still overwhelmingly align their thinking with the Democrats or the Republicans.

Moderation allows the space to agree not to agree. Not that staunch conservatives or passionate liberals should move towards the center. These polar opposites can practice moderation. David Brooks has written:

Moderation … stands for humility … listen to your neighbor… you’re intellectually humble in the face of that pluralism

Plus my reader’s picks of spiritual stories across the Mediumverse

Photo by Dave Hoefler on Unsplash

In no particular order other than how they have populated my use of the Medium’s list function, let’s get into it.

Patti Flinn did not tag this story as spiritual. Nevertheless, it is highly spiritual and if anyone caught the friendly battle between JS Adam, aka Kelly to my Blake…

I ask and answer with mondo

Nonconformist I
live to break and bend the rules
Is this not self-reliance?

Emerson would say
judge and determine yourself
Break rules for sake of it, No

Mondo poems are often very brief collaborative affairs that present a question and answer in the style of trying to glean meaning from…

My most important poem and essay, one of suicide prevention, just became my first story to reach the 50 fans milestone.

It tells of my friendship with Andrew since 1991 that continues beyond his 2006 suicide. How is that possible? …
