Actually Melanie you do believe in coincidences. I find that an abundant amount of people are not aware that the word is defined to connote cause and effect. I know you will receive this news well. Unlike another frequent writer in KTHT who blocked me for pointing out that his/her understanding of the word was mistaken because this writer prides itself as a walking dictionary. The dictionary defines coincidence:
"Noteworthy event, circumstance, or series of such, which occurs in conjunction, or synchronously, with others, and is of such a character as to suggest a connection of cause and effect, although apparently no connection of the kind exists." You do an excellent job of dream interpretation--a decoding skill that I do not yet have (I still barely dream--too many years of substance abuse). Carl Jung, a champion of dream interpretation, coined the term (or at least made it somewhat known) "synchronicity" and defined it circularly as a meaningful coincidence. Craig S. Bell’s fabulous book, Comprehending Coincidence, Synchronicity and Personal Transformation, discusses Jung’s work in great detail, provides myriad examples of real coincidences culled from his research, and much of the book discusses dream interpretation. Here is a story of Jung's that marries dream interpretation and coincidence: “A young woman I was treating had, at a critical moment, a dream in which she was given a golden scarab. While she was telling me this dream, I sat with my back to the closed window. Suddenly I heard a noise behind me, like a gentle tapping. I turned round and saw a flying insect knocking against the window-pane from the outside. I opened the window and caught the creature in the air as it flew in. It was the nearest analogy to a golden scarab one finds in our latitudes, a scarabaeid beetle, the common rose-chafer (Cetonia aurata), which, contrary to its usual habits had evidently felt the urge to get into a dark room at this particular moment. I must admit that nothing like it ever happened to me before or since….The dream alone was enough to disturb ever so slightly the rationalistic attitude of my patient. But when the “scarab” came flying in through the window in actual fact, her natural being could burst through the armor of her animus possession and the process of transformation could at last begin to move." Diana, Anthi and I have a pub, ChannSpirations and Coincidences, where we celebrate synchronicities and the every-person-portal. I describe its birth here. https://medium.com/illumination/what-is-channspirations-97516b44185a. We would love to have you contribute your fine writing and analytical skills.
