As an aside, and I enjoy tangents, I read an interesting story last year that said that monogamy (specifically one man-one wife as opposed to polygamy) grew out of the need for, for lack of a better word, unappealing (for any number of reasons) men to have mates available to them because otherwise the few appealing men would have harems and there would not be enough women for the rest. I guess this also would prevent unattached males from seeking to murder and take over the harem like what happens in nature with lions.
