Beautiful poem and thank you for the poet's notes section. This highlight from the notes reminds me of something I wrote many years ago about love though the meanings are not quite the same, but actually your "space in between" I think now is closer to my words below:

"The Beatles just covered the power of love for me. Now I can just paint me. I am a romantic. I believe in the existence of idealized love. I want it. I will find it. I want to grow old with my best friend, I want to walk down the streets of forever arm in arm. I want to sit on a park bench reading a book, her head in my lap reading her book as I stroke her hair. More important than sharing our highpoints, I want to share the mundane, and each other’s pain. [emphasis added] That to me is true unconditional love."

That's from my December 2013 self-portrait essay — my first ever piece of self-expository writing — it remains the finest piece I have written to date, or maybe I just love my first born. I painted images of the beginning of my spiritual journey, my experiences with codependency and narcissistic abuse, depression, suicide of a dear friend and my own thoughts of it years later and how I survived with the help of that friend's soul, whom I spoke to through a psychic medium that I still work with today (https://medium.com/p/6866a99ef1ca), unconditional love, plus some light brushstrokes of my favorite foods and song lyrics. If anyone feels that 17-minute read may be worthwhile, I published it on Medium a few years ago. https://medium.com/know-thyself-heal-thyself/self-portrait-in-essay-form-circa-12-2013-7bdac6f1510e
