Because we are each somewhere along the spectrum between animal and spirit, and I believe the healthiest place is near the middle of those poles. Too many new age spiritualists deride what they call ego. I know that ego protects soul, and vice versa. That laying anywhere too close to either pole is toxic. One pole is toxic masculinity (not to be confused with being male) and the other pole toxic femininity (not to be confused with female).
