I have addressed this topic a few times since I started writing on Medium over two years ago. 12-step programs do help many but the statistics do not lie. Success rates are too low not to look to see what can be done to improve them. I come back to this today to summarize my work on this subject and to clarify and amplify it based on a recent revelation.

While 12-step programs initiated my travels on the never-ending and long and winding yellow brick road toward spiritual intelligence (that’s jules - Miz Mindful’s link), and I bang drums loudly on this platform regarding the spiritual wisdom that any person can glean from learning about and working into their lives steps 4, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (see my Spirituality Redefined) (11 would be good too but it involves conscious contact with god which those other steps do not and I do not want to drive away atheists and agnostics), I experienced spiritual awakening outside of the program, which I had fled many years earlier because this human will not join any herd or follow any guru…
