Excellent post, Douglas, and excellently constructed, repeating the same sentences to describe who would be perceived by many to be opposites. When I saw your title, I expected the punching up/punching down essay would make an appearance, or perhaps I'm thinking of another one of your essays that focused more specifically on the tactics of the Just Stop Oil protesters. I thought you might have provided some concrete examples of correlation, such as here setting up the encampments and thus disrupting all's safe use and enjoyment of campus is punching down, yes?

What do you think of the University calling in the police to make arrests? It's difficult to know what the true motive was, but on the surface, I think removing the tents and trespassers, makes sense. The right to protest does not include the entitlement to violate property rights. And what do you think about faculty walking out over the arrests? It seems they may not see the forests through the trees.
