For My Dear Friend Evan
A poem of tanka stanzas
music and lyrics
melt my face into a smile
tears flow as poet
types tanka without knowing
or care where it will land
serene grin matters all as Stevie Nicks sings about dreams
and I recall gazing upon ocean while two headphones beat as one
friends on ship of love
philia and agape
unconditional
what can be more platonic
than man’s love for a brother
not of same mother
or even father, cousins
they said and we cringed
their marriage could not bind us
more than the moments we’d shared
I could describe the details for my readers but this poem is for Evan. All I’ll say is I was listening to a playlist when the pullspiration to write this poem hit me. I love you, Evie Poo.
PS: For poet heathens, the second stanza is the purest form of tanka.
In Rama I create, with soul energy surging through my body, inspiring me and breathing wind into my sails.
