God doesn't punish. That's a belief of many if not most religions, not just Christianity. Nor did God make a mistake in creating us. Humans were created so that souls could experience physicality and emotions. The meaning of life, every lifetime (I believe in reincarnation--this is my 17,043rd incarnation and that is not a lot), is simply to experience and learn. That requires people to play all sorts of roles. Good, evil, sinners, saints and everything in between.
