hahaha!! I was going to simply honor you by listening to the cover. Which I will do when I finish this comment and then come back. Besides, arguing over songs is ridiculous. You can't win and I can't win. We like what we like. I was also going to point to The Bangles Hazy Shade of Winter as a cover surpassing the original. Some covers do not surpass but are great in their own right. Mad World comes to mind. The original by Tears for Fears and the cover by Gary Jules. Romeo and Juliet comes to mind. The original by Dire Straits and The Killers' cover. The Ghost in You comes to mind. The original by The Psychedelic Furs and Robyn Hitchcock's cover.
I'm back. I listed to Healey's cover. It's excellent. Better is in the ears of the beholder. There's a bluesy feel to Healy's guitar. Different, as a cover should be. I prefer George's voice.
Oh I thought of another cover I love. I happened upon it while writing one of my poems with song references. I think I tried to get you to click into my https://medium.com/write-under-the-moon/selenophilic-and-poetophilic-ekphrasia-8ceda197a428 when I was complimenting your ekphrastic poems. Have you ever heard Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck perform Moon River? https://youtu.be/SKIFrPn0m4c?si=JvGRZWiGGhg7XeJJ
An interesting set of covers are the ones of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, (Jeff Buckley, Brandi Carlile, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale) including that Leonard himself has done the song with two different sets of lyrics. If you've never seen the documentary, on him and the song, I highly recommend it.
