Have you seen Once Were Brothers, Robbie Robertson and the Band? It's a great documentary that delves deep into the trials and tribulations of his own and the band members. If you haven't, I highly recommend it. It's very spiritual. Unlike the great Last Waltz, it's a full and complete history.
