Here's a contra piece by Douglas Giles, PhD about memes. I'm interested in your reaction. Maybe you'll write about it in one of your contemplative pieces, or a funny one, or both. https://medium.com/ellemeno/the-memeocene-humanitys-new-epoch-589ebdcd08a1 Personally, I don't like memes but I understand why people do. My son says they are just funny and I shouldn't get too serious on the topic. I told him about Douglas's essay and Alex just said essentially, whatever, he's probably old and out of touch. But, he's neither. Now that you prompted me to remember his essay and my convo with Alex, maybe I'll get Alex to read it and give me his proper reaction. Douglas's essay resonated with me but I also think he went to far by saying the internet is a failure as far as advancing civilization. It's a mixed bag for sure.

PS: the answer to your subtitle is, "The Shadow knows." Growing up, whenever one of us kids said, "who knows" my father would say "the Shadow knows." I didn't get it until I saw the Alec Baldwin movie and then I found saw the full quote is "who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men," and given what I now know about my father and his covert narcissism and unresolved oedipus complex, it all fits.
