I clapped for Tessa Schlesinger’s piece on lies and free speech 10x. Combining the science of propaganda with my pet scourge, confirmation bias, explains over 70M votes for PT Barnum in clown makeup. Truth-in-advertising laws need to be extended to political speech (link below), but of course anyone creating commercials knows those laws do not prevent deception. Those laws need strengthening. Fact checking would be a good use of AI as it is the only discipline I can think of where pure logic devoid of emotion would be useful.
