I completely understand and I certainly give in to too many hedonistic urges but I am getting better at remembering how I feel shortly afterwards and battling the built-in forgetter. I wrote an imayo poem about that:
Humans’ built-in forgetter — pleasure over pain
Pleasure erases the pain — erases lesson
Learn to play the tape forward — forward past pleasure
Walk down the path most traveled — take right turn this time

I am also reminded of my re-write of the serenity prayer to address the stoic's views about willpower:
Gods, please breathe into me the strength to do with serenity that for which I have distaste; the strength to say no to burning desires; and the wisdom to know that my path will lead to what I truly need and serene happiness will ensue.
