I do believe pain has value as it can make mistakes easier to learn from, as without pain the mistakes are easily forgotten--they are easily forgotten or overlooked by me even with the pain. Here's a poem I wrote about that:

"Humans’ built-in forgetter — pleasure over pain

Pleasure erases the pain — erases lesson

Learn to play the tape forward — forward past pleasure

Walk down the path most traveled — take right turn this time"

The explanation of my thoughts behind that poem is here: https://medium.com/know-thyself-heal-thyself/the-path-most-traveled-65cf48ee1f17

Another value in pain is on more of a spiritual level. I believe that often souls are here simply to experience pain regardless of whether the human experiences benefit and growth.

I do hope you will post your follow up.
