I don't think the writer's context required this admonition, after all, he's clearly advising not jerks to think twice--no advice will stop an ass from being an ass (and by the way, to someone's face is slander, not libel as libel is written as opposed to spoken, and it would only be slander if someone else were around to hear it, like an audience, but you know that, right?)
