I encourage your readers to read Patricia's story: https://medium.com/brain-labs/why-abortion-rights-must-matter-to-those-who-dont-have-abortions-321138bbdc47
"People opposed to elective abortions must understand the threat to their mothers, sisters, and other women they care about. This examination will not focus on the morality of elective abortions. Instead, the terminology and medical treatment surrounding the diagnostics and treatment of female reproductive care will be explained.
No matter where you stand on the right to choose to end a pregnancy, the right to preserve a woman’s life depends on access to reproductive care without the threat of violence or intimidation of healthcare providers."
Upon reading Patricia's story, I wrote this poem https://medium.com/p/30c2abba2008:
"healthcare
Hippocrates
without hypocrisy
ethics and empathy without
judgment
I see oath thusly
advise so she may consent
her body, her choice
you swore oath do no harm
save life in front of your eyes
understand lines blurred
when fetus shares her life’s blood
repeat, her life’s blood
who the fuck are you to judge
when religions don’t agree
save the mother’s life
just as advised on airplanes
put their masks on first
maybe maybe child survives
but mother you must preserve"
