I had this experience in September while having a few drinks and lunch at my hotel in Scotland waiting for my room to be ready after a long day of travel and walking around St Andrews, starting to fiddle with the Claddagh ring my dearly departed lover gave me only to realize I was just playing with my finger. Did all the checking you did though I knew I hadn't taken it off. Despite the hopes of many responders, the ring is never coming back. Thankfully, I had the foresight three years ago to have the ring tattooed on my wrist as a bracelet, with her names forming the chain. I wrote about the moment of realization, if you're interested. https://medium.com/write-under-the-moon/lost-and-found-a7e8c980ce65 a couple of lines from a couple of songs worked their way into the piece, and there's a really interesting clip from the Scorsese documentary on George Harrison of Olivia discussing what those in the room saw the moment he passed on.
