I have found that it can help to practice acceptance on a moment by moment basis, particurally with respect to overwhelming matters. I discuss my views on acceptance in detail here. https://medium.com/promptly-written/spiritual-prompts-for-the-week-of-june-12th-18th-86877724cd6b
I believe that writing about suicide attempt prevention is part of my dharma, possibly because I may have killed myself or felt responsible for another's suicide, or both, in prior lives. In a synchronicity moment this past Wednesday, I heard an interview of Clancy Martin, a philosopher and suicide attempt survivor, who wrote a book How Not to Kill Yourself, A Portrait of the Suicidal Mind. (My copy just arrived). One thing he said in the interview that resonated with me, and I'm paraphrasing now, is rather than struggle with and feel ashamed by suicidal thoughts, accept them, acknowledge them, and say to oneself, that exit door will always be there, I don't need to open it today.
