Have you read One by Richard Bach? I'm reading it now and loving it. There's so much in it. I'll be writing several posts on/inspired by/related to it and works of other Medium writers to which I can connect dots. With respect to what you've written here, it made me think of one scene in particular which they come upon a monk kneeling by a light. Out of the light emerges parchment (think Moses by the burning bush) filled with spiritual concepts, such as:
"You are creatures of light. From light have you come to light shall you go, and surrounding you through every step is the light of your infinite being.
By your choice dwell you now in the world which you have created. What you hold in your heart shall be true, and what most you admire, that shall you become you.
Fear not, nor be dismayed at the appearance that is darkness, at the disguise that is evil, at the empty cloak that is death, for you have picked these for your Challenges. They are the stones on which you choose to whet the keen edge of your spirit. Know that ever about you stands the reality of love, and each moment you have the power to transform your world by what you ave learned."
Richard is so overwhelmed by these words that he wants to become their protector and share them with the world. The monk talks him through what that would entail and that wars with those that hold onto different beliefs might ensue. Richard decides instead to burn the parchment. The monk then says, "What a blessed evening! How rarely are we given the chance to save the world from a new religion!"
