I know what you mean and your opinion is certainly not unpopular with me but also not persoannly my experience nor preference. My poems tend to be less emotional and and more intellectual or autobiographical and I do provide explanations but compared to my early work, which were all tanka and I described the thoughts behind every line, now I strike a middle ground in how much I explain. Sometimes a poet will tell me not to explain and I tell them dont read the explanations if you don't want to but more often readers both poets and those who may not write poetry thank me for the explanations--it makes my work more accessible to them. When I read others work, sometimes I connect to the mind of the poet and sometimes my comments reflect what certain lines in the poem say to me personally which is different than what the poet might have had in its mind and those comments are appreciated. Often lines will make me think of a song and I leave a link to the song as my comment. I do all of the above often in Claire Kelly's poems. Frankly, one reason I provide notes is I don't like to read a poem and say huh, and I don't want to do that to my readers. And yes sometimes rereading a poem and even an essay after some time my own words will say smething different to me.
