I love this Viktor Frankl quote from Man's Search for Meaning. "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms--to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way...between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." I don't remember the precise context surrounding that passage but if it was in regard to his experience in the concentration camps, it's all the more remarkable. I came across the quote again in October 2021. I don't remember what I had Googled or why that brought me to this post on Forbes, https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbescoachescouncil/2020/08/13/rewire-your-mindset-in-order-to-thrive-not-just-survive/?sh=7584b070d8f1 , which contained the quote. That same day I read this post by a dear Medium friend, Jules-Miz Mindful, https://medium.com/boomerangs/the-life-i-didnt-know-i-wanted-bc10c7d36cd2 , that discussed how she had to struggle to survive as a single mom in a world dominated by masculine thoughts, and thus hide her authentic self. In the post she asks "what is freedom" and concluded with "Perhaps, freedom is when we stop judging ourselves and others." I dropped the Frankl quote in a comment.

Whenever I have come upon the Frankl quote since I worked on your book with you, I saw the connection between "in that space is the power to choose" and the concept of pausing for more than 90 seconds before reacting so that we have the freedom not to be prisoners of heightened emotional energy.
