I may run with this in a different direction. I'll give you a hint from my recent poem plus https://medium.com/write-under-the-moon/embracing-uncertainty-7aedfa7d01b2. The plus part includes: "The runner on first base gets picked off. Then the batter hits a home run. The announcer says, 'If the runner hadn’t been picked off, that would have been a two-run home run.'

Greg screams at the television, 'How the fuck do you know that with a runner on the pitcher would have chosen to throw the same pitch and executed it exactly as he did and that the hitter would have swung and executed the same swing resulting in a home run?!?!'”

That piece launched off from me watching Andrew McCarthy's documentary Brats. Andrew asks Emilio Estevez, "If you could have the Brat Pack name not exist, would you?" Emilio responds, "That’s a difficult question to answer, because you can only know the known."

Also, I recently finished reading Richard Bach's wonderful spiritual and metaphysical novel, One, much of which is about choices as the protagonists hop from alternate reality to alternate reality meeting other versions of themselves or other incarnations of their souls. I've been planning to do a series on the book. My first one published a couple of days ago. https://medium.com/bookish-nook/people-are-people-not-us-and-them-ec6d4ddf5b2f You've just given me extra fodder for another installment.
