I must say, I misunderstood your reference to cult movies, and now I get it. My mind went to cult classics, great movies with a small group of devoted fans, like Repo Man or my personal favorite, The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension (Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, and Christopher Lloyd, and the first place I ever heard the phrase, "no matter where you go, there you are").
Your definition, which I guess is well known and/or makes perfect sense, reminds me of this great piece I read back in February 2021, https://medium.com/illumination/which-cults-do-you-belong-to-ce565c0fcb35 (which I actually cited yesterday in my Pitfall piece)
Ok, so now using your definition, I have never seen and I will never see Titanic. I never understood the mass appeal when I know the ending, yet had I known that it's another Kate got naked film, I might have reconsidered in my younger years
