I read an excellent older piece this morning by jules-Miz Mindful https://medium.com/know-thyself-heal-thyself/mindfulness-in-triggered-trauma-d857dbc5f32a that reflect much of this AA message. jules talks about mindfulness as awareness of thoughts and she uses the metaphor of driving a car while using the side view mirrors but not the rear view, which is of course the only proper way to drive. Have you ever seen the movie The Gumball Rally? Many have seen the mediocre Cannonball Run with Burt Reynolds but not enough have seen the brilliant Gumball Rally. Raul Julia plays an Italian race car driver that enters this everyman coast-to-coast race across the country. I've always remembered this line, which was purely funny to me as a kid but now I see deeper meaning: https://youtu.be/fDaONrHK1f8
