…May 13, 1938, Congress passed legislation officially making Nov. 11 of each year a federal holiday, known as “Armistice Day”. Originally created to honor veterans of World War I, the legislation was amended in 1954 to change the holiday’s name to Veterans Day, to include and honor American veterans of all wars.
