I take a different view of ego because I don't fall into the new age and some schools of Buddhist thought trap of misdefining ego. As I wrote recently in my https://medium.com/write-under-the-moon/symbiosis-f28878c9f7b6,
"my soul spoke to me
we are ego we are one
divine creation
embrace our duality
separate we are no one"
"We, meaning Greg and Marcus, who are aligned and integrated at this moment, loathe the derision of ego.
'Poor ego, it gets such a bad rap, being so often confused with ‘megalomania’ and ‘vanity’ and all kinds of other nasty things, but strictly speaking it is only a psychological term popularized by Freud meaning the conscious (as opposed to the unconscious) mind, or the awareness of one’s own identity and existence.'
Ego neither edges nor eases God out — that’s new-age spirituality, self-help, and support group claptrap. We understand their message but wish they would do so without corrupting a word.
Don’t say 'ego' when you mean 'less than desirable personality aspects.' In this case, less, while pithy, is not more. It leads to throwing the baby out with the bathwater."
