I think the point of those quotes is that work that we don't want to do feels like a chore, whereas when one loves whatever their work is it does not mean that it is not hard, yet they relish the challenge. Our exchange here reminds me of the stoics and Aztec's views of willpower as including not just the will to avoid unhealthy, but the will to do what we may not want to do. So if we love our work, that actually takes it outside the realm of willpower. It also reminds me of my favorite parable of the rabbi and the young couple (you're right, the other is right, how can they both be right).
