I used to think this way--to do it better. But that brings judgment into play. I now see it as to learn as much as the soul is willing to learn/take on about what it's like to be human with all that has to offer, pain and suffering included. I no longer think it's about being a better soul, but rather being a more informed soul to serve roles in heaven as guides and other roles that help humans.
