I'm glad to see the can break out of the pattern comment, and note that sometimes that includes breaking out of the pattern/prevailing wisdom of what works and doesn't work. Too often addicts are lumped together and offered limited treatment options. 12 step programs are full of wonderful spirituality but have dismal success rates yet too many in the field accept them as the only path.
