I'm totally with you on what you said about regrets. I often say that while I wish I had handled many things differently, as long as I learn, it's all part of the process and I like myself so I don't have regrets.

And while I'm divorced, I don't regret getting married for many reasons, first and foremost, my kids exist.

Re the words I highlighted here, there is an analogy between baseball and life. It drives me nuts when I hear an announcer, after a home run that was preceded by a runner getting picked off or caught stealing, say that it would have been a 2 run home run. Nonsense. The situation is different and no one can say for sure that the pitcher would have thrown the same pitch and that the batter would have put the same swing on the ball.

Somewhat related to your theme is the interplay between destiny, fate, and free will. You might enjoy my work on such matters: https://medium.com/@marcus17043/of-destiny-and-fate-9537cb2fa5a5
