In between those poles is holding someone accountable for their violations. I have been accused of "eye-for-an-eye" thinking when I do not just turn the other cheek, but that is false. Calling someone out and holding someone accountable, even so far as using the law to do so, is necessary for both persons' karma. If the transgressor is not met with consequences, they get stained with entitlement and allowing that is not the best karmic intent for the violated either.
