Interesting response from an evidently interesting and highly intelligent person. What you said about atheism and dogmatism, yes there's something to that and a bunch of atheists attacked me for saying that on some level atheism is another religion in my essay, https://medium.com/illumination-curated/lets-talk-about-atheists-and-bible-beating-believers-in-the-god-of-abraham-fe139f4833f3 subtitled "Although their beliefs stand in stark opposition, each exhibits behaviors akin to the other, including shortfalls in critical thinking."

And with regard to having the bandwidth for both religion and science, which each can be dogmatic, and thus I prefer spirituality (not new age, that's also another religion), you might appreciate my this essay of mine, Ménage à Trois Between Science, Spirituality and Philosophy https://medium.com/-a634f5446364 subtitled "They should have a permanent and mutually satisfying interdependent polyamorous relationship."

Across many religions one can find threads of non dogmatic spirituality as I'm sure you see with your love of comparative religion which allows you the space to think for yourself, which is the essence of the difference between religion and spirituality. One of my favorite quotes from Neale Donald Walsch's Conversations with God is:

"Religion cannot stand Spirituality. It cannot abide it. For Spirituality may bring you to a different conclusion than a particular religion — and this no known religion can tolerate. Religion encourages you to explore the thoughts of others and accept them as your own. Spirituality invites you to toss away the thoughts of others and come up with your own." Free will. :-)
