Many people do.
I look at it this way. Is writing a net energy gain or loss. And yes, money is part of the energy equation but a small one, but somehow I feel a lot of positive energy from a poem earning $15. I get a lot of energy from people's comments and the most from the occasional, "this is what I needed to read today, you really helped me." My guides told me a long time ago that they know my writing reaches the eyes it needs to. I try to remember that and not worry about my stats, which of course I look at.
Anyway, I value you and I'm sure others to too. Whether you get enough joy from writing, that's up to you. Should you rebalance your activities, only you can know. Me, I did a rebalancing at some point. I needed it. I was spending too much time on Medium writing and reading that I burned out and took off mid June 2022, wrote two good essays that fall, and then took off again for several months until I found a balance the next spring.
PS: I think so called writers block often serves a purpose. That it's our guides or our subconscious telling us something else needs our focus. Thus, I don't believe in soldiering past it.
