Meaningfully engaging responses are very helpful and will help you gain followers. Now the value of followers is debatable and you can find many articles cutting both ways, and frankly it does seem to have little or nothing to do with reads as the algo is a piece of shit, but for me, every time I get a follower I know something I wrote somewhere, whether in a story or a comment, meant something to someone and maybe helped them.
