Thank you, however, my mother doesn't get credit for that lesson. That credit belongs to Jensipidy's mother. I was quoting her essay that I cited and linked.

This is the second time I am correcting a commenter here on this point. I lead into the quote with "all made me recall a Medium essay by Jensipidy’s Pen, Grey is Gone, I Miss Grey, which I read about four months ago and that inspired the title of today’s essay.

Jensipidy writes:"

I'm not giving you shit Lottie. I'm trying to understand in my mind how commonly my readers make this mistake, not only in this essay but in others. Is it because so few people quote the work of others? Often in other essays a commenter highlights part of a quote from another writer and says, "I love this." I'll reply credit goes to ______ who I quoted. Occasionally the response will be "I know but you brought it to my attention." Did they know or are they covering up that they didn't realize?

I quote the work of others often because they deserve credit for inspiring me and quoting them should increase the chance that a reader will click into their story and the essay reads better and has more impact quoting than paraphrasing. And it builds community. Jensipidy was the first to reply to this essay and thanked me and said I brought her joy. I guess her joy isn't diminished by people missing that I was crediting her especially when she's not likely to come back and read other comments, but it does diminish my joy and frustrate me.

Should it though?

I'm wondering, do you read on your phone or on the computer? I find that when people read on the phone, me included, comprehension suffers. I get much more out of a story when reading on a larger screen.

At some point, I may end up writing a short post about this subject.
