There was a small faction in the Human Form Replicators created by the Ancients in the Pegasus Galaxy that wanted to grow spiritually and ascend (lose physical form and become pure energy). Most of them though wanted to kill every human.

Oh, and the Ancients had created the replicators as a weapon to fight a war tha they were losing with a species called the Wraith.
