We were typing our responses at the same time. I agree re atheism up to a point. My wavering has to do with how many self identify as atheists but actually do believe there's something more than just the randomness and accidents of a purely materialistic understanding of reality. My essay on atheists and bible beaters delves into last year's Pew Research report which revealed a range of beliefs among those identifying as atheists. A close Medium friend of mine called herself atheist the other day while in the same breath saying she experiences the metaphysical. I questioned whether she was truly atheist or simply doesn't believe in the God as described my many religions. She got a bit perturbed with me.
