Well, love is often certainly painful yet spiritual, and a lot is learned through pain of all sorts so, no, painful does not necessarily mean not spiritual. Nevertheless, I suspect you were asking something different by choosing to question my choice of the word painful but rather than assume what you meant, I'll wait to see if you clarify the question which may help me clarify those words that I actually wrote in 2013 that may need some improvement.
