What you say about Manchin is not fair. He is a centrist, or if you prefer, a conservative democrat. Not being a progressive does not make him not a democrat. (I don't doubt that he is in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry, that's another matter altogether). The fact is, a progressive democrat could never get elected out of WV. Would you rather a republican had his seat and McConnell were Majority Leader when Supreme Court vacancies occur? 20 or 30 years ago there were many conservative democrats in the Senate from red states. Now those states pretty much have 2 republican senators, the only other exception may be Alabama if the democrat that won the special election against that crazy racist still has his seat.
