I think God is saying that for example, the soul doesn't care what one chooses as their vocation but does care about how one acts in the carrying out of that vocation. Further, let's say one's core purpose is to teach, as I believe mine is. That doesn't mean Marcus cares whether or not Greg decides to be a teacher as my vocation as long as in that vocation I choose to be a mentor I am then fulfilling the core purpose. Also, as pointed out so eloquently and precisely by White Feather, our scripts require unpleasant actors. In past lives I've been twice a slave and once a slave trader.
