Yes, it's not really dignity. It's the foul side of pride. Dignity is the ability to be humble and accepting. The foul side of pride gets in the way of this. I say the foul side because, in our limited language where words mean two or more things, there is a good side of pride--it's good to be proud of one's accomplishments.
