Another possibility is an algo running in the background that occasionally and somewhat randomly suppresses reads and that does this to everyone. A few pennies/dimes/dollars shaved off of some stories from 1000s of writers accumulate to beaucoup dollars for the platform owners, just like the permanent "glitch" in the subscriber notices system has been randomly suppressing views for years
