I came across the names of some medieval Christian mystics recently reading Somerset Maugham's The Razor's Edge. Are you familiar with Ruysbroek? Anyway, the novel, through the character Larry, juxtaposed against the bourgeois society in which he was raised, is wonderfully spiritual.
